My name’s Nazia and I was born, raised, and still reside in London. I have something of an obsession with stories and the people they belong to (or maybe I’m just nosey) and I spend far too much time in pyjamas. I wake up at ridiculous-o’clock in the morning to bake cookies, adore hand written notes and letters, and am allergic to flowers but like to have them in the house anyway. I can’t ride a bike, nor swim, nor walk in heels, but I make a mean dessert and get massive kicks out of the simplest things in life.
At one point I knew the names and positions of all 206 bones in the human body. Which isn’t all that impressive really and I decided to clear the head space to make room for more important information in my life, like the exact number of seconds I should microwave my ice cream to get the gloopy consistency I like (it’s eleven), or the best places to go (or not to go) for awesome Chinese food.
My favourite food in the whole wide world is toasted buttered bread and sometimes I eat it for every meal of the day. My second favourite food is cheese. I’m left handed and have to use two spatulas to flip pancakes, and I can’t watch TV without subtitles. Besides spending a lot of time baking in the kitchen, I also really like reading, writing, taking photographs, quirky socks (right now I’m wearing ones with little Smurfs on them, from the boys section), eating chinese food, stealing rocks from places I visit (it’s not really stealing), wedges (not to be confused with wedgies), mornings, nail polish, washing dishes, pyjama bottoms, the colour yellow, making lists, rainstorms, handwritten letters, drinking coffee, drinking smoothies, autumn time, chewing gum, action movies and comedies, storytelling, and lots more things but I think I’ll stop there.
I do not like rush hour (transport, not the movies), drying dishes, making my bed, using public restrooms, the bits of yoghurt found along the rim of the yoghurt pot when you open the lid, coach rides, hot weather, fizzy drinks, horror movies, stuff on high shelves (I’m only 5 feet tall), and parallel parking (I haven’t driven a car in almost 4 years but that one still counts).
No one really knows what my name means. I discovered it means “honest” in one of those baby naming books, but my key-ring says it means “song”. But I’m pretty sure they make all that stuff up. Either way it doesn’t really matter because I’ll respond to anything from a “Yo” to a “Hey, you with the face”.
I graduated with First-Class Honours in Biomedical Sciences last year, and finished by postgrad course in May 2015. I loved being a student, even when I have no money. My initial food blog (This Baker Girl Blogs) was born at some point during my time at university and was a massive distraction. Oops. But these days I work a full time job and spend a large portion of my time pretending to posses some level of maturity. Yup was born out of a desire to connect my food blog with all other aspects of my life and to share more than just food with all of you. But, mostly food. You can find out more about the blog by clicking here.
Please stay and say “Hi!”. I hope you find something you like and decide to stick around. If you’d like to find out more about me or my blog then you can click here, and here. We can also get chatty and become buds on my social networks – come find me on the facebook page, twitter, instagram and pinterest. See you there!
If you’re new here then you might want to start at the recipe index. Or, here are a few of my personal favourites:
- Chocolate Samosa
- Apple, Chocolate and Cinnamon Muffins
- Caramel centred Chocolate Chip Cookies or Chocolate Truffle Centred Chocolate Chip Cookies
- Chocolate Cupcakes with Chocolate Buttercream Frosting, or Earl Grey Tea Cupcakes, or Coconut and Peppermint Cupcakes.
- Macaroni and Cheese
Or my mother’s favourite: Chocolate Fondant
Also, because I really like lists, here’s some more:
Food I love: Cheese. Fondue for two please. Eggs. Every way but mostly scrambled or sunny side up. Dark chocolate. Fruit. All of them. Just ask my instagram. Pasta. Nutella. Pizza. Stuffed pizza crust. Genius. Caramel. Toast. I could live on it. Cheesecake. Every time. Gravy. I want to swim in it. Chow mein. So many stories I could tell. Cinnamon. Vanilla. Nuts.
Food I like a little bit: Cucumber. Popcorn.
Food I hate. Cream cheese frosting. I like cream, I like cheese, I like cream cheese and I like frosting, but I do not like cream cheese frosting. Unless it’s chocolate cream cheese frosting, that I can get on board with. Okra. Yuck. Jam. Avocado. Ketchup. Creme fraiche. Red velvet cupcakes. Yes, really. Creme eggs. The ratio of creme to chocolate shell is just completely wrong and feels sickly. Green bell peppers. Pop tarts. Lindor chocolate. This tends to shock a lot of people. Mustard. Celery. Ginger. Greek yoghurt.
Food I used to hate but now love: Houmous. Humus. Houmus. Humous. How do you spell it? Mini creme eggs. The ratio of creme to chocolate shell is just right. Marshmallow. Carrots. Only if it’s in a cake. Olives.
Food I recently tried: mussles, octopus, fresh figs, eggplant, chia seeds, dragon fruit, green tea and marmite.
Food I really want to try: macarons, scallops, smores, and red pesto.
